SYPNOPSIS
Could research on tree rings prove true a legend about the near extermination of the Kauwerak Eskimo people? I joined an Eskimo family on a pilgrimage to their ancestral home, and a Columbia-University climate scientist to his research site, to discover how fire in far-off Iceland might have caused ice in Alaska and forced a mother to take heroic measures to save her child.
